Club history

1986–2026 · 40 YEARS OF FZC PHILIPPSBURG

WORLD-CLASS EXPERIENCE. SHARED ON OUR MAT.

World Games winners, world champions, three Ju-Jutsu grandmasters and DOSB A-level coaching qualifications connect elite experience with youth development, prevention and community life. This summary covers the main milestones; the detailed German timeline is linked below.

WORLD GAMES & EXPERTISE

THREE TITLES IN OUR ATHLETES’ AND COACHES’ CAREERS.

Corina Endele and Matthias Huber won Duo Mixed gold in 2005; Dominika Zagorski and Tom Ismer won it in 2013, both for Germany. Ivan Nastenko won Fighting gold for Ukraine in 2013, before joining FZC. He now shares this experience as a coach. These are career titles, not three titles all won while representing FZC.

Our three grandmasters are Michael Korn (8th Dan), Matthias Huber and Tom Ismer (6th Dan each). Korn holds DOSB Trainer A qualifications in performance and recreational sport; Ismer in performance sport.

1986–1992

FROM A LEISURE CLUB TO YOUTH TRAINING.

Founded in 1986 and registered in 1987, Founding member Michael Korn continues to shape the club as its chair. Nine members joined a beginners’ course in March 1992. Judo and Ju-Jutsu, the first belt examinations and children’s training laid the foundations for the club’s sporting development.

2002–2017

FROM PHILIPPSBURG TO INTERNATIONAL PODIUMS.

Endele/Huber added the 2006 world title to their 2005 World Games win and five German titles. Zagorski/Ismer became world champions in 2012 and won World Combat Games silver in 2013. Sturm/Birn became U21 world champions in 2015 and won World Games bronze in 2017. Tanja and Jasmin Ittensohn won the Duo Show world title in 2016. Korn/Poppele won youth world bronze in 2015 and 2016.

2013–2024

RECOGNITION FOR SPORT, COACHING AND YOUTH WORK.

Michael Korn was named Baden-Württemberg’s Coach of the Year 2013 and received the Federal Cross of Merit in 2022. FZC received the Grüne Band youth-development award in 2014 and 2021. Club athletes’ honours include the Silbernes Lorbeerblatt and DJJV gold badges. Youth-friendly club and prevention awards, VORBILD SEIN and the DJJV quality-management recognition for 2023/2024 also form part of the club’s history. Korn also received Baden-Württemberg’s honorary badge in 2014 and was named Vorbild des Jahres by Württembergische Sportjugend in 2017.

In 2019, Sturm/Sickinger and Korn/Heilig won U21 world silver in Duo and Duo Show respectively. Sturm/Birn became European champions in 2022. The Ittensohn sisters won the Duo Classic world title in 2023 and Duo Show European gold in 2019, 2023 and 2024.

2022–2026

CHAMPIONSHIPS AND EVENTS BUILT BY VOLUNTEERS.

FZC hosted the German youth championships on 7–8 May 2022 in Waghäusel. Philippsburg hosted the South German championships in 2023 and state championships in 2025 and 2026. FZC hosted the 2026 Baden-Württemberg championship and took third in the club ranking. Its Trommler-Cup develops young competitors; FZC won the Duo club ranking in 2026. Baden rockt! attracted over 200 participants in 2025, alongside regional and national courses, squad training and examinations.

Since fleeing the war in 2022, Ivan Nastenko has found a sporting home at FZC. Anhelina Hrebenko later joined, remains internationally successful and helps with children’s training. Exchanges, Italian partnerships, camps, family activities and prevention work connect sporting achievement with solidarity.

2025–2026

HIGHER GRADES, NEW RESPONSIBILITY AND THE NEXT GENERATION.

Huber and Ismer were awarded the 6th Dan in 2025. Additional milestones included the 5th Dan for Gensich; 4th Dan for Ittensohn, Ittensohn, Korn and Birn; and 3rd Dan for Heilig, Ernst and Huber. Michael Korn became JJEU President in October 2025. Nicole Zach and Charlotte Stark were elected youth representatives in December.

National youth champions include Erbey Celik in 2025 and Hannah Pabst (U16 BJJ −48 kg) in 2026. Görkem Yilmaz won German silver (U16 BJJ −56 kg) and European Contact Ju-Jitsu silver; Seyyid Kizilkaya also won European Contact silver. Dornblut/Moscherosch won U18 Duo Mixed gold, Stark/Zach U18 Duo silver, and Ittensohn/Zoch adult Duo Mixed gold at the 2026 German championships.

2026 · 40 YEARS

EXPERIENCE THAT HELPS OTHERS GROW.

Philippsburg is a DJJV national Duo training centre. Coaching education, prevention qualifications and over 60 successful youth belt examinations in 2025 show how knowledge is passed on. Parent-child play wrestling joined the programme in 2025. Championships, family celebrations and volunteering all belong to our story. Detailed results, honours and the full timeline are linked below.
